The stock market will remain open from 9 am to 3:30 pm on Saturday and remain shut on Monday. The decision has come ahead of the Ram Temple ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony in Ayodhya on Monday, January 22.

The Indian stock market will have a full trading session on Saturday, January 20, a National Stock Exchange (NSE) spokesperson confirmed to Reuters.

Whereas, trading across equities, debt, and money markets will remain shut on Monday due to a public holiday in Maharashtra. “In partial modification to Exchange circular reference no. 59917 dated December 26, 2023, the Exchange hereby notifies Monday, January 22, 2024 as a trading holiday on account of a public holiday declared under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881,” said NSE in its press release on Friday.

In addition to the Maharashtra government, the central government had declared a half-day closing until 2:30 p.m. on Monday on the occasion of the Ram Mandir ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony.
