The stock market will remain open from 9 am to 3:30 pm on Saturday and remain shut on Monday. The decision has come ahead of the Ram Temple ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony in Ayodhya on Monday, January 22.
The Indian stock market will have a full trading session on Saturday, January 20, a National Stock Exchange (NSE) spokesperson confirmed to Reuters.
Whereas, trading across equities, debt, and money markets will remain shut on Monday due to a public holiday in Maharashtra. “In partial modification to Exchange circular reference no. 59917 dated December 26, 2023, the Exchange hereby notifies Monday, January 22, 2024 as a trading holiday on account of a public holiday declared under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881,” said NSE in its press release on Friday.
The Maharashtra government has declared a public holiday on January 22 to mark the celebration of Ram temple Pran Pratishtha in Ayodhya. In addition to the Maharashtra government, the central government had declared a half-day closing until 2:30 p.m. on Monday on the occasion of the Ram Mandir ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony.
